The asset is time, and the record of it is the business.

Consultancies, legal and accounting firms, engineering consultants and agencies sell expertise measured in time and delivered as documents. Utilisation, billing accuracy and confidentiality are the operating concerns, and the estate is small but unusually sensitive.

This page describes how the sector works and which of Noble’s capabilities apply to it.

How the sector runs

Revenue depends on time being recorded accurately and close to when it was spent. Everything downstream — invoicing, margin, utilisation, resourcing — inherits whatever quality that record has, and a timesheet completed on a Friday afternoon for the whole week is where the error enters.

Client confidentiality is a professional obligation rather than a preference, and it lands on ordinary technology: who can open which folder, what leaves the organisation by email, how long material is retained after an engagement ends, and whether a document management system reflects any of that.

What the estate usually looks like

01

Time, billing and margin

A record of hours feeding invoicing and profitability, where accuracy at the point of entry decides the quality of everything computed from it.

02

Documents as the deliverable

Working papers, models and reports held under client confidentiality, with version, access and retention rules that are professional obligations.

03

People who work anywhere

Laptops at client sites, in transit and at home, which makes the endpoint the security boundary rather than the office network.

Start with the timesheet.

When it is filled in, by whom, and how much of the invoice is reconstructed afterwards from memory.
